Packing is overwhelming; we all know it, but there are simple steps you can take to ease the burden. Just like any goal, breaking your task down into manageable chunks makes the job much easier. And the good thing about packing? You can get started way earlier than you think. Our moving checklist is a timeline of when to get started so things are easy-breezy when the movers arrive.

8 weeks out

You can get started two months—yes, you read that right—two months before you’re moving day. This is the best time to take stock of your belongings and decide what needs to go.

  • Start with a brief clean to make your space easier to organize.

  • Separate clothing, books, and knick-knacks into keep, toss, and donate piles.

Six weeks out

It’s time to start planning.

  • Research moving companies based on your needs and start sourcing moving quotes.

  • Create a packing calendar with your timelines, important dates, and when you plan to pack what.

  • Source your packing supplies and learn more about the importance of quality packing supplies in Kelowna

Four weeks out

Alright, it’s time to start packing. At the one-month mark, you can safely start packing:

  • Seasonal clothing

  • Spare linens

  • Decorations

  • Collectibles

  • Art

  • Items that are rarely used

Two to three weeks out

We take it up one more notch by packing:

  • Spare kitchen supplies

  • Books

  • Jewelry

  • Games

  • Hobby equipment

  • Office Supplies

  • Fragile items

One week out

At this point, you can start packing most things. That includes:

  • The bulk of your clothing

  • Spare shoes

  • Bedding

  • Electronics

Days before moving

Have your moving bag packed so that a set of clothing and bedding are ready as soon as you arrive in your new home.

  • Pack any important papers

  • Plants can be placed gently in boxes

The day of

It’s the big day! Aren’t you glad you did all that packing two months ago?

  • Pack your toiletries into your moving bag.

  • Keep cleaning supplies in a separate box; you’ll want them ready to go when your new place is ready for a deep clean.

Rejoice! You made it to the finish line in one piece. If you’re still overwhelmed, feel free to check out our packing services.
