Welcome to the Neighbourhood: Your Local Movers in West Kelowna and Neighbourhood Guide
Posted on December 22, 2023
Navigating your new neighbourhood on moving day is made easy when you work with local West Kelowna movers like Bighorn Moving and Storage.
West Kelowna, a.k.a. The Westside, is the third largest city in the Okanagan right now, and with good reason: the hiking, lakes, and orchards are backed by the services and amenities you need from a bigger city. If you’re moving to or within West Kelowna, first of all—we commend your excellent taste! Secondly, make sure you work with local West Kelowna movers who understand the ins and outs of your new neighbourhood.
Who are the best West Kelowna movers?
When looking for the best movers in West Kelowna, one of the most important factors to consider is local knowledge and expertise. That means that the best movers in West Kelowna are local!
If your local moving company also calls your new neighbourhood home, they have the benefit of valuable insider knowledge such as:
- Housing types
- Specialised equipment
What to look for when selecting house movers in West Kelowna?
When looking for movers, there are a few important things to look out for:
Does the moving company provide the right moving services for your needs?
Does this company provide the local moving and storage services necessary for a stress-free move? That could be piano moving, hot tubs, or other specialty items. Don’t assume every mover is equipped to handle your needs. If you’ll need temporary or long-term storage during your move, does the company you're considering provide both services? It’s easier to go with one full-service moving and storage company like Bighorn than multiple providers. Get a firm idea of what you need to have moved, then get a moving quote from multiple companies.
Is the moving company properly accredited and licensed?
When we talk about local moving services, we mean moving companies that are locally owned and operated, not that guy from down the street who has a truck. Going with a reliable, fully licensed, and insured moving company is key to a smooth move. No one wants to start their new home off with being scammed! Check the Better Business Bureau and Canadian Association of Movers to ensure the validity of the moving company you’re looking into.
Who really runs the moving business?
Today, more than ever, it’s difficult to know where your money is actually going. Big box moving franchises might have a large and recognizable name, but by digging deeper to support a locally owned moving company, you’re not only supporting your neighbours but benefitting from the local knowledge they’ve earned over a lifetime.

Why West Kelowna?
The real question is: why not? For people who love the outdoors but also want access to the amenities of a bigger city, West Kelowna has everything you need. If you can’t find it in West Kelowna itself, just cross the bridge to Kelowna, and you’ll find it.
Within West Kelowna, there are multiple neighbourhoods that have their own unique character and appeal. You’ll find:
The most populated area in West Kelowna, Glenrosa is the place to be for families looking for outdoor adventure. It contains two public schools, access to countless hiking and biking trails, and amenities are not far from home at the Westbank Centre.
Rose Valley/West Kelowna Estates
The second most populated neighbourhood in West Kelowna, Rose Valley is packed with parks and trails to enjoy the outdoors and two excellent elementary schools.
Shopping, restaurants, parks, and community events make Westbank Centre a great neighbourhood for families and mature residents alike. Bonjour! It’s also home to West Kelowna’s only French immersion elementary school.
Easy access to the Okanagan Lake bridge to Kelowna, Casa Loma is a small but breathtakingly beautiful, quiet neighbourhood on Okanagan Lake.
Home to Gellatly Bay Park and waterfront, this emerging neighbourhood maintains a small-town feel. You’ll have to travel a bit further for amenities than other neighbourhoods, but the lake life will be worth it.
Lakeview Heights lives up to its name with stunning views of Okanagan Lake and surrounding orchards while maintaining access to schools, restaurants, and five wineries from the Westside Wine Trail!
You’ve probably already heard of Mission Hill, thanks to the five-time Canada’s Winery of the Year winner that has its namesake. Just outside of the town centre, it’s a quiet place to settle down and have a nice glass of wine with a view.
If you like golfing, fishing, and hiking, Shannon Lake is the place for you. Coupled with mountain views and top-notch middle and elementary schools, it’s a great neighbourhood for young families.
Feel out of town while still being close to town. Smith Creek has a farm feel and access to amazing local produce. Small farms operate in the area, but you’ll be just a hop, skip, and a jump from the urban amenities of West Kelowna.
Warm summers and mild winters are just some of the reasons that people want to live in West Kelowna. Add to that the recreation opportunities, wine, and agriculture, and the lifestyle is hard to beat!
An outdoor lover’s paradise
The West Kelowna lifestyle is amazing for its access to the outdoors. Endless hiking trails start almost at your doorstep, and the waterfront gives incredible access to Okanagan Lake for long days by the water.

When the snow rolls in, Big White Ski Resort, located on the highest summit in the Okanagan, is just a short drive away.
World-class wineries and fresh produce
West Kelowna alone is home to 16 impressive wineries operated by distinguished winemakers, families, and experts in the wine world.
The agriculture surrounding West Kelowna is part of what sets the area apart and also means fresh fruits and vegetables (particularly Okanagan peaches and cherries) for you to enjoy.
The most common type of home you’ll find in West Kelowna are detached, single-family houses, and the majority are newer builds as of 1961. As demand for housing increases everywhere, the city is working on implementing a housing strategy to increase opportunities in the rental market and create more housing for under-served demographics.
